Editorial Policy
Nest Egg Numbers exists to put honest retirement math in front of people who do not have a financial advisor on call. This page describes how that math gets written, reviewed, corrected, and kept clean.
Who writes the site
All editorial content is written or reviewed by Charlie, who reached financial independence and retired in early 2025. The byline is one name on purpose. The site is not a personal brand project and there is no team of ghostwriters padding it with affiliate funnels. See the about page for more on the author.
How we source claims
- Numbers about safe withdrawal rates, sequence risk, and historical returns trace back to primary research (Bengen, Trinity Study, Guyton-Klinger) or to public datasets (Shiller, FRED, BLS).
- Tax-strategy claims cite the IRS publication or Revenue Ruling that controls the rule, not a paraphrase from a financial blog.
- Brokerage comparisons quote the brokerage's own public disclosures. We do not synthesize fees or features from memory.
- Cost-of-living data references BLS Consumer Expenditure Surveys and C2ER COLI rather than user-generated city indices.
The canonical source list lives on the methodology page. Each calculator and many articles repeat the relevant subset.
Independence and funding
- No paid placements. No sponsored content. No advertorials.
- No referral or affiliate fees from brokerages, custodians, or robo-advisors.
- No newsletter list designed as a sales funnel into a paid course.
- No financial relationship with any company mentioned in our content.
If that ever changes, the disclosure will appear here first and at the top of every affected page. Nothing about the current model requires affiliate income.
Review cadence
- Calculators are reviewed at least every six months and after any code change to their math.
- Articles tied to tax law are reviewed in Q1 each year when the IRS publishes new contribution and bracket figures.
- City and state cost-of-living content is reviewed at least annually against fresh BLS / C2ER data.
- Each calculator and methodology page shows a visible Updated and Reviewed date.
Corrections
If you find a math error, a source we got wrong, or a tax rule we summarized incorrectly, please email corrections to corrections@nesteggnumbers.com. We respond within five business days, fix the page, and add a dated correction note when a meaningful number or claim changed.
What we will not publish
- Specific investment advice for your situation. That is the job of a fiduciary.
- Guarantees of future returns or success probabilities.
- Hot takes about individual stocks, crypto tokens, or trading strategies.
- Anything that requires you to hand us your real financial data.
